  • The department of Anaesthesiology was started in 1995 when the college was established.
  • The first MCI inspection was held in September 2002 for starting PG courses (M.D) in Anaesthesiology. Approval was granted for two M.D. students every year. Letter in 2009 and 2010, seats were increased by 4 and 6 respectively.
  • Medical Council of India (M.C.I.) recognized the department for M.D Anaesthesiology and the first M.D. exam was held in 2006. The result was 100% for all the batches till 2010.
  • Approval to start diploma in Anaesthesiology was granted and the first batch was admitted in 2008. It was recognized in 2010.
  • There are presently 6 M.D. and 2 Diploma seats in Anaesthesiology per year.

    • Associate Professors- Four
    • Assistant Professors- Five
    • Tutor- Four
  • The department working has been divided in various sections viz.:
    • Anaesthesia O.P.D. for preoperative checkup and Pain clinic for management of chronic pain patients
    • Various operation theatres for routine surgical specialities and superspecialities including Neurosurgery, Oncosurgery and Urosurgery.
    • A departmental museum, departmental library.

  • A well planned department with proper infrastructure, ample space for staff offices, library, museum, rest rooms for on duty doctors is the primary hall mark of the department for smooth conducting of academic and administration work of the department.
  • Well equipped operation theatres with standard anaesthesia delivering machines and multi parameters monitoring systems for smooth conduction of anaesthesia during various surgeries viz. laparoscopic, neurosurgical, general surgery, obstetrics and gynec surgeries, ENT surgeries, onco surgeries, ophthalmology surgeries, orthopedics surgeries and others.
     
  • Intensive Care Unit for critically ill patients with ventilators and monitors to manage the patients.
     
  • ICCU for cardiac patients in co-ordination with medicine department.
     
  • Pain clinic for management of chronic pain patients.
     
  • Seminar room equipped with LCD projectors, T.V., VCR, Slide projector, Over head projectors, computers and laptop for presentation and study purpose.
     
  • Internet facility to surf the latest development in the subject and access to virtual library.

METHOD OF EXAMINATION
BHAVNAGAR UNIVERSITY.

SCHEME OF UNIVERSITY EXAMINATION IN
ANAESTHESIOLOGY (M.D.)

 A)       THEORY EXAMINATION: 

  1. There shall be 4 question papers, each of 3 hours duration. Total marks of each paper will be 100. Questions on recent advances may be asked in any or all papers.
  2. Theory examination shall be held sufficiently earlier than clinical/practical examination so that the answer books are assessed before the commencement of the clinical/practical examinations.
  3. Theory examination will be 400 marks. Students must obtain 50% (200 marks) to pass examination.
  4. Framing of the question paper would be such that it can test the student’s analytical skill as well as knowledge in depth.
